At Mad River Retrievers we specialize in quality Labrador Retrievers that are bred from some of the best Field Trial, Hunt Test, and Conformation stock in North America. We believe intelligence, trainability, and the desire to please are all inherited through good breeding practices. Our puppies excel in natural retrieving and hunting ability while maintaining the great temperament, soundness, trainability, and the true Labrador disposition that has made the Labrador Retriever the top breed in America for many, many years. Clearances for hips, elbows, and eyes are all mandatory for every one of our breeding dogs.

  Mad River Retrievers was started as a small hobbyist kennel, that has become very well recognized among Waterfowl Hunters & Hunt Test Enthusiasts throughout the mid-west and up & down the Central & Mississippi flyways. Several of our dogs literally grew-up in the bottom of my Son’s  Finisher Blind while he was guiding waterfowl hunts for a couple of years, from the pothole region of North Dakota, through Missouri, into the Texas Panhandle, then onto Louisiana.

  We are located in the beautiful Mad River Valley of west central Ohio. The Shawnee Indians called this valley “Wapatomica”, which means, “Smiling Valley”. We have great Trout & Saugeye fishing, as well as upland bird & deer hunting, and we catch some waterfowl leaving Lake Erie on their way down the Mississippi flyway.
